We live happily in a two-bedroomed, disabled flat in Deal, Kent with our five cats.
Let me introduce our cats: first is SPIDER - he is our no.1 tom cat, 10 yrs.old; Next we have our two girls - the princesses - SOPHIE and TIGGER 9 yrs.old; bringing up the rear we have our two babies MINKY and GARNET 2 yrs.old
Spdider is all black, he unfortunately had a bleed on his brain last year, but he has come through it well up to know - the only change to his personality seems to be that he has no tenacity left - he just gives up if challenged. Even Minky can challenge his position as top cat, and not receive much resistance! He is a very affectionate boy, with a really loving nature, and always comes for kisses when we get home each day. Sophie is our very pretty tortoiseshell, such a lady. She and her sister, Tigger, were born to a cat who had been rescued by a friend of ours after a road accident, three weeks after she took her in, our friend discovered she was pregnant. She went on to have four kittens, sophie, tigger, boots, socks (cos he had white 'socks') and we took on the girls. Sadly, over the next two months, their brothers died. Sophie does not like to have too much contact during the day but, when we turn off our bedside lights and settle to sleep, she jumps onto the bed and starts demanding to be stroked and fussed, her tactics include 'patting' our faces with her claws! Tigger is a small tabby whose dream life would be to be an only cat, she loves to sit on any available lap, and gives wonderful cuddles. She, unfortunately, is the main target for Minky, who attacks her mercilessly, although we do try to keep her safe. Minky is a Burmese with attitude!!! He loves playing at being top cat, keeping everyone else in check and vetting all our visitors to make sure we are safe. He is not particularly cuddly, but will tolerate a two minute cuddle with good grace, then run off to rule his kingdom. Last in thre line-up is Garnet, so-called because in low light her eyes glow garnet-red, who is a Siamese-Burmese cross but without a Siamese voice - she just has a tiny little croaky-squeak. She loves being with us as much of the time as possible, her favourite spot is at the bottom of the bed, preferably curled up against one of us. Her colouring was white body with a seal-point face, until she went for neutering, when the fur on her side started to come back through grey, then a patch of grey developed along her back, so she now looks mucky! Even as I type, Minky is watching my every move.
Anne and I have been together for 11years - we held a civil registration ceremony 18th December 2007. We met while both patients in a therapeutic community in London. I left the unit in February 1997, and went to supported housing in Bermondsey, while Anne remained in the unit until early April, when she joined me at the house in Bermondsey. We stayed there until September 1998, after which we moved to Deal, in Kent, where we still live. As we are both disabled, we act as each other's carers - this normally works very well, but recently Anne was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and possibly Multiple Sclerosis - the results are, at the moment, not conclusive so she is to have a lumbar puncture soon - don't know the date yet.
