My fascination with building models started when I was eight years old in a little town of Ottumwa Iowa where I went to high school with Tommy Johnson Jr., a now top fuel funny car driver who was just a grade above me in those days.

My brother Brian owned a black 75' Cutlass Supreme with a 455 motor with dual four barrel carbs and she was a running machine.

My first girlfriend, Marla, had a 70' Chevelle SS, it was blue with white stripes and she had a body and personality to match that car.  She was crazier than most of the guys at school.  From then on, I was hooked.

Weekend car shows introduced me to the classics, 48' Ford Coupes, 32' Ford Coupes, 41' Willys and the 50's classics got my attention.

As I got older I spent my weekends at the Eddyville Drag Strip, it was an 1/8th mile strip where Tommy Johnson Jr. got his start.

I didn't have the money to actually buy any of these cars, and that's how my life of building got started.  From building cars, to my favorite Friday night Creature Feature monsters was how I spent my time. 

I'm always looking for better, more inventive ways to build and I've learned from the pros like David Thibodeau, Juha Airio, Clay Kemp.

I have respect and admiration for all builders, anyone who creates art for our enjoyment is allright by me.

My wife has been a great supporter of my hobby and has even started helping me build by sanding seams and various prep work. 

I'm impressed by all of the great builders out there and here on eBay and I feel right at home with you!  Take care, Derrick
