Why the Shop Name?

In the 16th century, my home town, Vienna, Austria, was under siege by the Turks. This brought - among other things - a very sophisticated coffee culture to the city, which is very much alive today.

In Vienna you will find numerous Art Deco coffee houses with red velvet seats, where the "Melange" (a milky coffee) is served on a silver tray with one or more glasses of water.

I just liked the idea of customers having a nice cup of coffee whilst browsing through my shop.

What else do I do apart from spending many an hour on Ebay?

I am a professional freelance translator, working for numerous clients on commercial translations.

And I am an artist who enjoys to paint - mainly with watercolours - upholster furniture, revive and restore sad old chests and tables, and create soft furnishings. I believe, that 'painting' can be done with any material, be it fabric, linens, plants in the garden, paper, acrylics or water colours.

A new table cloth or a new pair of curtains can completely transform a room. A vase with flowers can 'complete' an aesthetic view. I do hope to achieve this with the items I sell.
