Early experiences with art. When I was a child, my mother had a beauty parlor in our home. While she worked in the shop, my sister and I would entertain ourselves with drawing. Mother would buy rolls of butcher paper and we would roll it out the lenght of the living and dining room and draw. We really liked to draw our own paper dolls and create fashions for them. Mother also bought us paint by number sets and we loved doing them, they helped expand our sense of color. My daddy was very artistically talented, mother did crochet, tatting and other crafts. My daddy was a carpenter by trade and died in an accident on the job when I was 12.

Art at School. We did not have art offered in our rural school, but the teachers found ways to challenge my sister and I in art. We made many posters for school, advertizing athletic event, which were put in the street attached to a barrel. We did bullitin boards, charts, banners, floats and many more things. Three years ago there was finally an art society created in our county. I participate in their shows and was recognized and honored in 2005 at the annual show. I have taken art classes in college on the side. I majored in mathematics education, and I have taken a correspondence course in art, as well as courses from FSU (Florida State University), Chipola College, Gulf Coast Community College, FAMU (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University), and private lessons from Victoria Bush. Mostly though, I have learned by experience. I have entered many shows and festivals in our area, even some juried shows. I have won some awards and not won sometimes, but have enjoyed it all. I love to do art and I love that it seems that I can continue to learn and improve. I love to paint the things around me and people. I also like to learn about the things I paint, especially wild flowers, historic buildings and herbs. I have mostly shown my work in South Georgia and Alabama and North & Central Florida, but have sold some items on the internet to several states. I am a retired grandma and now I paint what I want, whatever I decide to do when I get up every morning. I also like to collect antique china and depression glass. Thanks for looking at my page.
