Treasures from the Swift River Valley
About Me
My home is in the mountains of western Maine. My studio is tucked under the eaves of a 180-year-old farmhouse. I am not a native Mainer, but my family roots go deep in the rocky New England soil.
I have been a freelance artist all my life. My grandfather, an artist, photographer, and my childhood mentor, gave me a sketchbook for my first birthday. I sold my first painting when I was a teenager. Since that time I have been a handweaver and teacher, a calligrapher, a homeschool mom, a caregiver for aging in-laws, an art gallery manager, and a student, but not necessarily in that order and not all at the same time. I have a B.A. in studio art from the University of Maine at Augusta.
Some of my other passions are playing music (recorder, mountain dulcimer, Celtic harp), gardening, playing with my granddaughters, and being an amateur naturalist. I am happiest with a pencil or paintbrush in my hand.

About My Art
I find my favorite subject matter in the natural world around me. My sketchbooks are filled and my paintings are fueled by the wealth of treasures I see daily here in the Swift River valley, everything from the wild mountain landscapes to the veggies in my kitchen.
Making art is a form of contemplative meditation for me. My work is primarily realistic and highly detailed. I use a wide variety of media, including graphite, colored pencil, oils, and intaglio printmaking. I use only professional quality nontoxic materials, with acid-free papers.
I am privileged to live in one of the most beautiful places on this planet. My desire is to share some of that beauty with you, hoping to entice you to stop and look at the world around you in a new way. Whether you choose to buy a miniature or a large canvas from me, I hope that it gives you as much pleasure in the viewing as I had in the making of it.
