About the Artist
Work by artist Michael Schwab can be found in museums and collections throughout the country. His life's work has been focused on keeping with Tradition while creating reproductions of Native American artwork. Adopted by a Santee Sioux family, his goal has been to preserve the integrity of Plains Indian art through the use of traditional materials, tools, and techniques. In this way he hopes to help keep some of the traditional methods alive and honor the Native Americans. While remaining faithful to the spirit and design of the Plains tribes, he also draws inspiration from books, museums, historic photos and experiences within his adopted Santee Sioux family. All work is signed and is accompanied by explanatory notes regarding the use, meaning and symbolism of each piece.
