A goodbye note...
Hi there,
This is just a quick note to say sorry to leave you but I'm off outa here! Strictly speaking I may not be going completely, I’m going to try to keep a few auctions going, but Ebay as a place to sell artwork has got more and more like flogging a dead horse, so I shall be closing the actual ‘shop’ in a couple of days time – so no more buy-it-now shop listings.

Which (and I must have too much time on my hands since business is slow) kind of prompted a little piece of doggerel. I should be painting, I know, but here for your entertainment, is my little note to Ebay….
Dearest Ebay, sad to part,
You’ve been the shop for my strange art,
But now, alas, I’ve cut my losses
And gone to Etsy cos you’re all tossers.
The crowds, in droves, once flocked you see,
They came and saw, they bought with glee.
But now your site’s a little bare,
I’m lonely, and there’s no one there.
This place so huge one needs a map,
To navigate through endless crap.
We used to browse for jewels bright,
For lovely garments to delight,
For diverse treasures, no place finer.
But now it’s all from bloody China
And sadly I can’t shout so loud
Of my own art, though I be proud.
Lest stringent ebay censor trolls
Shall pull my pictures of naked dolls.
A plastic nipple, I am told
Is evil brash and base and bold.
And furthermore the fees sneak up,
And up and up and up and up,
While sales are going down and down -
I think I will my sorrows drown
In cheap red wine – I raise a glass,
And toast the loss of this pain in the arse.
To customers, both long since past,
And those who’ve stuck here to the last:
Ebay’s gone bad, it’s such a bummer,
Come with me, we’ll do a runner!
You see, I’m off to pastures new,
And gleefully bid my Adieu.
Though slow to learn, I’ve cut my losses
Cos Etsy isn’t run by tossers.
Though not so true as it might have been (I’m hanging onto a few auctions and might even have calendars in due course), all the same, I thought it might give you all a laugh…

About my paintings:
My paintings are largely concerned with the re-working of themes of fairytale and fantasy, mixed with many modern-day references, always trying to give a little disturbing twist to my interpretations. The result is something that hovers somewhere between fantasy and satire, and is not quite either. I do not usually take my subjects too seriously, though I may occasionally seek to make a serious point by poking fun.
I have a weakness for depicting the totally ordinary and mundane - when it is quite out of context with the subject - a sort of inappropriate normality, hence the common appearances of glasses of wine and cups of tea amongst my pictures. I like the idea, for instance, of Devils on their coffee break, after a hard morning persecuting the Damned. This kind of subject also lends itself to the sort of undertones of fetish that often colour the characters in my paintings.
