Update!!!
So it's been nearly a year now and a lot has changed! The playground has been installed and has just celebrated it's first birthday! Wow, I still can't believe that we raised £16,000 in a year!
I have just finished my two years service as secretary to the local Pre-school and the astronomy is still not getting my full attention.
So it's time for new projects! Not sure what yet!
I will be organising the Chernobyl Childrens Gift Boxes as normal, plus running the local Toddler Group amongst other things.
Thats country life for you, always jobs to be done!
Chernobyl!
What exactly do I organise for the Belarussian children that visit?
I supply to each group a years supply of multi vitamins to help boost their immune system on their return home. I provide soaps, shampoo, toothpaste as they have very little dentistry in their country(no pain relief) bubble bath, toys, make up and much more, all things that we take for granted, that they cannot afford or cannot get!
Why because I think that they deserve something. Their land is contaminated as is their water, the food that they grow and eat is still full of the radioactive isotopes that cause cancer, but they are expected to survive!
So I believe by giving each child a gift then perhaps in some small way I may have made their lives a little better if only for a short while.
Live for the here and now let's worry about tomorrow another day!
Not a good motto but it's a start. I will deal with the initial problems for now and someday the long term issues!
The average wage in Belarus is £ 8.00 per week! The average packet of paracetamol is three times that amount!
