he last time I bewailed my problems with eczema I had some lovely letters from people with tales of what had worked best for them or their afflicted friends or family. I tried the lot! I really did. I have a huge aloe plant but the gel from the leaves didn`t cure me. I`ve tried all manner of natural oils and ointments and, in desperation, prescribed steroids. Nothing has worked and soon I`m off to the dermatologist seeking, if not a cure, at least some relief from the itchy menace. If anyone else out there is currently suffering from eczema then I`m right there with you; it looks horrid, feels horrid and it`s a tenacious beast. Pattern for adult scratch mittens anyone?!
I absolutely loathe the early appearance of Christmas goods in September. Why do I have to be reminded that it`s galloping up on me when it`s only September? I`ll list some handmade items nearer the time and meanwhile just don`t mention it at all. It belongs in December and I`m not going to turn and face it until then. Just one more rant on the subject: isn`t it all wrong to have Remembrance Day with Christmas lights everywhere? Is it just me who has a feeling of revulsion that the gaudy fake jollity of commercial displays should be juxtaposed with the solemn laying of wreaths and the silence when we remember, as we promised we would, those who died (many no older than children), in the hellish conditions of war?
On a brighter note and vowing to stop sounding quite so much like a grumpy old woman, I`ve been enjoying sorting through the hoarded treasure that is my vintage textile store. I have some beautiful sturdy old French ticking which I`m still in the process of de-feathering but I hope to be listing examples shortly. There are some wonderful variations and it`s fabulous for all kinds of sewing projects – perfect for creating your own vintage chic designs and of course the ultimate in classy recycling!
Until next time (promise it`ll be soon), happy treasure hunting!

PS. I`m having terrible problems uploading photographs - once I solve them there`ll be some here. Fingers crossed!
