We had shopped on EBay a few times in the past and after moving to the Swedish countryside following my retirement, I was looking for something to do other than photography and writing.  It was the process of unpacking after the main move that suddenly inspired me to sell a lot of our collected pieces, there was just insufficient room for them!

Collections of books had to be decimated, especially my Dick Francis and James Herbert volumes, and thus was the Nordic Marketplace born.  We started with books, first editions mostly, then began to add other items of jewellery and ornaments.  We are still trying to sell one or two of those original stock items!

The next step was our subsequent move to a larger house with more storage.  This was necessary to accomodate the stock of the Marketplace, records and give us an office.  We lived in the beautiful village of Rätan, a few miles south of the town of Svenstavik, roughly in the middle of Sweden, for just over two years.  Now we have moved south to the busy town of Örebro - a sort of 'Guildford' in Sweden where shops are easily accessible.

Visits to local loppis (car boot sales) has established that the Swedish have all collected a lot of pewter items over the years, and there is a great deal offered on the sales.  We soon found that pewter was collectable in many other parts of the world.  One visitor suggested that old slide rules and other scientific instruments would be good sellers, and we have sold many since!

So here we are, enjoying selling and trying to make our trading as fair as possible.  There is no great profit to be made as postage from Sweden is very high and sometimes we make a considerable loss on underestimating the weight of items.  Needless to say we have now bought a nice electronic postage scale!
