The Old Post Office Bears
Hello and thank you for dropping by!
Firstly I am a mother of three incredibly gorgeous boys aged 10, 7 and 2 and step mother to a fantastic 16 year old! You may well ask yourself how I have time to load items on ebay and make bears inbetween running around after all the boys, washing football kits, picking up lego bricks, homework, changing nappies, cooking, cleaning, lifts here there and everywhere to clubs, and moping up tears when my 2 year old has another bump or he thinks the world is about to end because he cant fit his puzzle together! etc etc etc! Well the answer is I have very little time but just try to grab a moment when I can.
We live in a remote village in Buckinghamshire in a lovely thatched cottage called The Old Post Office, which the romantic side of me likes to think chose us, rather than the us choosing it. It has a garden filled with weeping willows, a beautiful pond, and the air is filled with bird song, hence the name The Old Post Office Bears
Since a young child I have always loved anything old, which I think was a seed placed by my grandfather with an old sepia photograph of my great great grandmother. It lead me to collect all sorts of antiques and old interesting items and you will quite often find me trawling car boots and charity shops. I also have a love of anything miniature and of course a love of art, sewing and creating. All this I think has played a part in where I am now with my artist bears.
I owe my love of sewing and creating to my grandmother who was a very talented dress designer and seamstress. She would spend many patient hours teaching me to sew and knit, when I was a small child, although the later I never could get the hang of! I would always be sewing and creating clothes for my dolls and teddies.
I take my inspiration from all the old and antique bears that so often capture your heart! You know, the ones with the 'take me home faces' you just cant resist. The bears are all designed and created by myself. All my miniature bears are hand stitched and can take up to 15 hours to make depending on their accessories and each one is made from traditional components i.e. Shulte Mohair, Cotter Pin Joints, Wool Felt, Perle Waxed Noses and I just love filling my miniatures with steel shot to give them a lovely weight.
You will also find that I often list collectables, vintage, and designer items. I am a hopeless collector of all sorts!!
And finally if you have reached this last paragraph without falling asleep, congratulations!! I have recently designed my own website, so if you would like to see more of my bears, then please click on my web link below.
