About Myself
I have always had a fascination with the natural world. It's my biggest passion in life and it has been the reason I have devoted much of my life to traveling and tracking down my favourite birds and animals.
My other great love is art. Pencil in particular. Ten years ago I combined these two interests to travel the world and draw incredibly detailed fine art drawings to reproduce as wildlife portraits. My brief was to draw the animals that most people love to the highest standards possible at a price that they can afford without choking. I don't want anyone to say they cant afford my work. What is the point of that? I want my work on walls, art is for everyone.
As you can imagine my work is not something you can knock out on a wet Sunday afternoon. This kind of photo realism is a rare skill which requires levels of time and commitment that few are willing or able to give. Each drawing is meticulously planned and thought out, then painstakingly drawn. They take me weeks to complete using all the tips and tricks I have discovered and devised over the last 20 odd years.
It helps if you are an obsessive. I am and it shows in my work.I feel compelled to draw every hair, feather and whisker to perfection. Each new project is a brand new challenge and I push the limits of my capability further and further each time I start something new.
Everything takes time and patience of course and I usually allow a week on average to complete a drawing. Sometimes they do take longer, three and a half weeks is my maximum for one picture. If I totted up all the hours I spend travelling, photographing and planning aswell as making the drawing it would all be too daunting to start anything.
So why black and white? Well simplicity in short, all I need is a pencil and paper. I used to paint many years ago but taking all that kit abroad was a nightmare. Gradually over the years I painted less and less and drew more and more untill my drawings became the finished pieces in thier own right. Oh and I am colour blind so maybe that makes a difference.
I was born in 1961, raised in Bognor (I dont talk about it much) and presently live in Brighton.
I have had no formal training and am entirely self taught. Yes I can just do it, one of those irritating people.
