FRANKIE CREITH TEXTILE ARTIST ABOUT THE ARTIST: Frankie graduated from the University of Ulster, Belfast in 1989 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Craft Design. She returned to complete her Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Art in 2001. Her work is exhibited and contained in many private and public collections worldwide, including the prestigious V&A Museum, London, which houses one of the World’s largest collections of Applied Art. Her work is featured in several publications, including credits for her written work in Val Holmes book, ‘The Encyclopedia of Machine Embroidery’, Batsford, London, 2003. Throughout her career she has worked as an Arts Administrator within the field of Community Arts, an Art Tutor in Further and Higher Education and an ‘Artist in Residence’ for all of the Education and Library Boards and Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Currently, she exhibits her work at larger trade shows such as the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate and Art Ireland in Dublin. She was a member of the well known '62 Group of Textile Artists' for seventeen years and is currently a member of 'Design Gap/Art Gap'. HER WORK: Best described as 'Mixed-media Textile', her work is composed of a range of materials, collaged and layered together, with the use of free machine stitch to highlight and embellish. Over the years her inspiration has been drawn from a variety of sources. Most notably, her early work, which was strongly influenced by the many cultures and artefacts encountered during world travel, the weathered images and text of antiquated postcards combined with personal memories of later work, and the exploration of her Christian faith seen more prominently in current gallery work. As a full time artist and mother, she runs her own gallery in Portrush, on the picturesque North Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland. Established in 2003, Townhouse Gallery, situated in her edwardian home and under her own watchful eye, aims to support, encourage and promote Irish designers/makers/artists by stocking a varied collection of their contemporary high quality fine and applied art and craft work, encompassing the areas of textiles, ceramics, jewellery, glasswork, photography contemporary paintings and limited edition prints.
