The Guardian is tracking a three-year development project being carried out by the African Medical and Research Foundation (Amref) and Farm-Africa, in partnership with Barclays, to improve the lives of the 25,000 people living in the rural sub-county of Katine, in north-east Uganda.
The project, launched in October 2007, focuses on five key areas - education, health, water, governance and livelihoods.
To monitor the work, we've launched a dedicated website (guardian.co.uk/katine), which explains where donations go, how aid works, and how lives are being changed. We also speak to Katine residents to get their views of the project.
To put the work being carried out in Katine into context, the site contains news and comment on Uganda's history and politics and we debate the wider issues of aid and development on our blog.
