ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Harriet, and Ie been buying, wearing, and occasionally selling vintage clothing since my early teens.  It has become a bit of a consuming passion, and like so many others I began selling on ebay as a way of funding my vintage habit I have a one in, one out rule with my wardrobe that has been broken more times than I care to remember... Everything I sell is something that I really would wear myself, or can imagine someone looking fantastic in. It has now reached the point where I have so much surplus (I never thought I would hear myself say this!) that a long planned website www.tastyvintage.com is finally up and to showcase the real gems that Ie been hoarding away!

A QUICK NOTE ABOUT VINTAGE CLOTHING

The vintage clothing I sell is generally pre-owned and most likely pre-worn  - unless of course it is ew old stock(NOS), which would be noted in the description. Any notable flaws such as fading, storage dirt, marks, damage, or repairs are reported in the condition section, but it is worth bearing in mind you are not purchasing a brand new item. I do occasionally clean items prior to sale, unless they have a special finish or are a particularly delicate fabric. Again, I will note in the description whether or not Ie cleaned an item, and whether or not it would benefit from cleaning.

I think it safe to assume that when buying vintage clothing you might want to clean/have it cleaned yourself before you wear it if it hasn already been done.

I list all the measurements in inches. These are the actual measurements of the garment, so ideally you should measure slightly smaller than the item does!. I do this because even modern dress sizes are still not standardised, and it makes it virtually impossible to accurately translate vintage sizing into modern. You will probably know yourself that while you are a size 10 in one shop, you will be a 12 in another.

Unless you fluctuate wildly, it really is worth measuring an item you know fits you well in a similar style to the one youe buying, and then you can easily compare the measurements. And of course measure yourself as that useful information compare with too!

Because an awful lot of vintage clothing was tailor made to fit the owner, be it from a pattern or made to order there is no size anyway. Once you get used to buying clothes based on the measurements it is actually surprisingly accurate the only trouble I have now is when I go to buy something in Topshop these days I have no idea what size I need to pull off the rail (did their sizes get smaller? Surely Ie not got bigger!

Lastly, it worth remembering that clothing can be always be altered to fit a good deal more easily if you buy it slightly bigger than it can if it a bit too small!

UK POSTAGE - i always aim to post your item within 48 hours. i am not responsible for items once i have posted them, so please bear in mind that it is not my responsibilty to refund you should they not arrive. while i do not insist on extra insurance, i would always recommended it. i'm also quite happy to post second class recorded to save you a few pennies, just let me know at close of auction and i will adjust accordingly! i always obtain a certificate of posting which will provide compensation against loss and damage for up to 0.00. this is included in the basic postage price. if your purchase price is over this amount and you require additional insurance then let me know as i am happy to arrange it at actual cost. the same applies here for international buyers.

OVERSEAS BIDDERS - please email for postage rates before bidding if you are concerned about the cost so i can find out the options for you and let you know in good time. should you win an auction, please ensure you are paying for the international postage, not UK - and i'm afraid it's UK CHEQUES ONLY due to extortionate bank fees. all payments (uk and international) must be made in sterling.

If you feel there is a problem with your purchase please contact me before leaving hasty feedback, so we can conclude the transaction to everyone's satisfaction - I just want everyone to be happy, and am perfectly prepared to accept polite complaints gracefully so don't be afraid to say something! I promise I won't get huffy...

If the mistake is mine and you wish to return the item you can do so for a full refund, including postage.

If the item is simply not what you wanted and you would like to use the original description and/or pictures to re-sell it then I am happy to give permission for you to use them, just email me and let me know. Alternatively, if you wish to return the item I will refund the purchase price, but not the postage costs in this instance.

OTHER STUFF

I never start auctions at high price as I believe that is part of the fun (and a way to keep down my listing fees!). This doesn mean that I didn pay more for it to start withnd the end price is often not representative of the value of that item to anyone other than the winning bidder  - as that is how much they were prepared to pay to secure it. It may occasionally have little reflection on the market value. This is an auction, not a retail shop, and you only pay the price that you determine at the end of the day.

I have a dog and a small child.I do not tend to keep them in wardrobes (unless they are very very bad), but just incase either offends I thought it best to let you know. I don't smoke, and am pretty sensitive to cigarette scents and other odours so will mention any strong odours I notice  - although I may often not know the previous history of the garment, so l might not be able to say for sure if it previous owner was a smoker, had pets, dry cleaned their clothes regularly etc etc.

Occasionally I will lighten pictures of darker coloured items to show detail. The backgrounds may be airbrushed but the item themselves never are. Generally I will use a small crinoline underneath fuller skirted dresses etc. to show the skirt to best advantage - this is not included in the auction (I need it!).
