CD GRADING

I don't much like the fairly common practice of using "very good condition" or "good condition" to describe a CD or record which is not really in very good condition at all! One site classifies "good" as "the disc is heavily scratched but can be played through without skipping." I would not call that good, (I would probably grade it as "fair") so I use my own grading system:

MINT: I only use this when the CD is sealed and I know that it genuinely is in mint condition.

EXCELLENT: Near mint condition. I can't see a mark on the disc, and the inserts/covers have no tears, folds or writing. Pretty much as good as new.

VERY GOOD: Maybe one or two hardly noticable marks, certainly nothing much to worry about.

GOOD: If I describe a disc as "good" then it will have a few noticable marks. Certainly the marks will not cover more than 5% - 25% of the disc and will not be heavy scratches.

FAIR/REASONABLE: A disc described as "fair" or "reasonable" will have a lot of surface marks, they could be be all over the surface of the disc. I will not sell as disc in this condition unless I have checked to make sure it plays without problem. I don't sell unplayable discs!

POOR: A disc that jumps or skips, or otherwise won't play. I don't sell CDs like this. In the unlikely event that one comes into my possession, it usually ends up in the bin!

*NOTE: If there is any damage to the covers or inserts I will state this in the item descritiption. I do not grade jewel cases as these can easily be replaced for about 20p! However I don't send CDs out in cracked or broken cases.
