Steve was born in Sheffield in 1968, Kerstin was born in Hamburg in 1971.
"We met on a bus between Kathmandu and India in 1990 - I had more bananas than I needed and Kerstin was hungry."
They have lived in Birmingham, Southampton and Northern Thailand. Steve has been a School Teacher and Computer programmer. Kerstin worked for a stock broker and a Science Museum.

We travel round Northern Thailand visiting small local producers of mulberry, or as it is called here, saa paper. Local markets also provide a good hunting ground for other craft items such as gold leaf, fabric embellishments and silk. We try to buy from small family run producers, where we can see that they make these beautiful items themselves.

Natural hand crafted Mulberry Paper has been made for over 600 years by the the Karen Hill-tribe people in north-eastern Burma.  It is made from bark that naturally peels from the trunk of the Saa tree at the end of the rainy season. This means the paper is made without trees having to be felled. The "Saa" tree is a variety of Mulberry which is found extensively through out Northern Thailand, Northern Burma and Laos.
The bark is used to make a mulch to which natural dyes are added to provide colour and various decorations can be placed on the screens before the mulch is spread out and left to dry in the sun.
Now many Thai families have taken up this craft and a thriving cottage industry has grown using "Saa" paper to make all manner of goods, from small decorative flowers to huge lanterns and gift bags. We will get back to you with a quote as soon as possible.

If by any chance you are not satisfied with your goods please get in touch with us. We will arrange a replacement or provide a UK return address and we will refund the cost of the item on reciept of the goods. We regret however that we cannot refund postage costs.
