NO cheques please.
If it is local pick up only then cash is fine in these circumstances.
Please note the final bid is what you pay and not to haggle.
New to e-bay or 3+ negative Feedbacks - Please read this
New e-bayers (zero Feedback)
We all started new to e-bay (zero Feedback) but given one or two difficulties I have experienced with new e-bayers please contact me first before bidding to ensure that everything is clear.
I don't expect any problems and sometimes I can help!
Three (3) or more Negative Feedbacks
I have a block on (three) 3 or more negative Feedbacks.
Standard Sellers Rate
This is the simplest way.
The cost clearly varies from product to product given size, weight etc. Where there are high ticket/value items I will use the Royal Mail Recorded Signed For service.
If the buyer lives in areas, for example, the Channel Islands or not mainland UK, where there might be an impact on postage costs, then please contact me first i.e. before placing a bid and I'll check out carriage costs.
I also try and package goods as well as I possibly can.
Below are (verbatim) e-bay’s guidelines on postage and packing:
Sellers may charge reasonable postage & packaging charges to cover the costs of posting, packaging, and handling the items they are selling.
While e-Bay will not prescribe exactly what a seller may, or may not charge, e-Bay will consider member reports when determining whether or not a seller’s postage, handling, packaging, and/or insurance charges are excessive. Postage & packaging and handling charges may not be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.
In addition to the final listing price, sellers are permitted to charge:
Actual Postage cost: This is the actual cost of delivering the item.
Handling Fee: Actual packaging materials costs may be charged. A handling fee in addition to actual postage cost may be charged if it is not excessive. Sellers who want to be sure they are in compliance with this policy may charge actual postage costs plus actual packaging materials cost.
Insurance: Sellers offering insurance may only charge the actual fee for insurance. No additional amount may be added, such as “self-insurance”. Sellers who do not use a licensed third-party insurance company may not require buyers to purchase insurance.
My policy/practice is as follows:
When a buyer bids the cost of despatch is clearly expressed.
Should this be an issue the standard practice is to contact the seller – before placing a bid.
Most sellers incur costs over and above despatch costs which include ancillary costs associated with the sale in their “postage” costs and are expressed in the listing.
These costs include office consumables such as: cardboard boxes, jiffy bags, various types of tape, bubble wrap, wrapping paper and miscellaneous items
There are also, for me, the costs incurred getting to and from my local Post Office. As I’m not a bulk trader, and I want to deliver a quality and fast service, my trips to the PO are mostly one-off. Accordingly this is factored into my calculations.
In order to safeguard myself, as there are occasional stray cases of non-paying bidders, I will require payment to be with me within at least five (5) days of the auction ending, otherwise I will re-list unless the buyer lets me know that there’s a genuine reason for a delay which has happened a couple of times and the reasons were totally understandable.
- No quibble returns within 7 days*
I am happy to return, without quibble, most goods within seven (7) days. That is from the date that you received the goods. This will exclude return carriage costs.
However when it comes to products which can be easily copied like CD's and DVD's I can not accept returns unless the product is genuinely flawed.
For your reference I also ensure that all products are photographed not just for e-bay listing purposes but in case there are any post sale issues.
* Certain products excluded – see above
e-bay has changed the rules recently meaning that Sellers can not leave neutral or negative feedback.
In some ways this is a good move as the e-bay Feedback programme, whilst an excellent idea, was abused by some Sellers.
For me if people behave reasonably and sensibly then positive should be given as soon as possible, ensuring, of course, the product or service works as described!!
Firstly there are no set rules for who should leave Feedback first.
For many the way it works best is once the buyer has received the product then he/she leaves feedback or, if there are concerns, then these should be raised before Feedback is left.
Footnote
The end of the transaction is considered to be when the seller has accepted payment and the buyer has accepted the goods.
The seller accepts payment (and should let the buyer know that they have received payment and accepted it) then sends the goods to the buyer.
The buyer examines, or uses the goods, and then once happy with the item the buyer accepts.
The Buyer needs to let the Seller know that they have received the goods and are happy with them, or if there is a problem, then a solution needs to be found that both parties find acceptable.
Once the transaction is complete, and any problems have been dealt with, then both parties should leave feedback.
There is little sense in leaving feedback before this time.
Finally once again thanks for Visiting this Page
I hope this gives an idea of the way I approach using e-bay.
