May 23rd 1995 was not a good day for me. In the morning I was told that my job as a Personnel and Training Manager for a major UK retail chain was being made redundant due to 'restructuring' - and in the evening, whilst out for a therapeutic motorcycle ride with my husband (and about 40 others), we had a major accident. (Not our fault - dodgy road surface!)  Overnight my life changed. My injuries meant that I was immobile for quite some time and would never be able to return to the career I had forged over the past 18 years. I was used to a very busy lifestyle -looking after my family, rushing between work, school, child minders and home had meant that I never seemed to have enough hours in the day- does this sound familiar ?

The enforced inactivity gave me the time and space to rediscover my creativity; I began to paint again...and created my own website to showcase my ceramic art.  This website (the link is below) is still going strong today and is my main method of communicating what I am up to!  I also found that my psychic and spiritual senses were opening up once more; although I have been seeing and sensing spirit since I was just 3 years old, it took a back seat whilst I was busy being a mum to three young children!

In October 2004, just when everything seemed to be progressing along quite nicely thank you, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and have had 6 operations to date (another minor scar revision is due in May 2009) plus chemotherapy in order to recover.  I even managed to get a tummy tuck on the NHS! - My surgeon used my horrid flabby tum to make a new 'breast' for me.  Today, you cannot actually tell that I have had a mastectomy, I can wear tops as low and revealing as I like and consider myself to be lucky.  You remember the old saying about 'Be careful what you wish for'? About three weeks before the diagnosis I said to my husband that i would do 'anything' to get a tummy tuck...yes, but maybe not that way eh?

As I said, I am one of the lucky ones, I got my life back...and now I am working hard to make my dream of becoming a 'proper' published author come true.  In the last few years I have written many articles and even a column for UK Spiritual/Paranormal magazines, have had my own radio show, been a core member on another radion show, worked with loads of well known 'names' in the business and taken part in countless Paranormal Investigations in my role as medium. This is in addition to writing books and workshops and helping lots of people from all walks of life to develop their own connections to the angels, to spirit and to the Divine Spirit - whatever or whoever your view on that might be.  

How am I achieving this?  Mainly through hard work...if you want to do something, then you have to be prepared to put yourself in the path of the gods, head held high.  Take your opportunities where and when they are offered and give thanks every day for all the good things in your life.  I have two things that i try to live my life by...the first came from a book I read years ago and is that if you are not prepared to put yourself into the path of the Gods, then how do you expect them to notice you?  The second is a line from 'Strong' by Robbie Williams. I have this painted up inside my front porch..."Life's too short to be afraid, step inside the Sun"

Many of you know me just as Pennymoon - the name was thought of by one of my children.  Sometime in the summer of 1996, my son Matthew, then aged just 3, looked up at the full moon hanging in the sky and announced that it looked just like a 'penny moon'.  I liked that and have been Pennymoon, or Penny Moon ever since! ...But my real name is Michelle and I am now reclaiming my identity!

Thoughts...

"Even on those days when you feel that nothing is going right; remember that there is always an angel watching over you.  All you need to do to bring that angel light into your life is to send a silent thought to ask them in...if you are a doubting soul, like me, or think that this is just plain nuts, then ask them for some proof that they are there.  It is always given - but you need to watch for it!  The angels try very hard to talk to us, but our lives and heads are so full of our busy busy lives that we can miss their words and their guidance. remember that every prayer is heard and every prayer is answered; you may not get a sudden lightning bolt from a clear blue sky, you may not win the lottery (!) but the angels work to put the right people and the right  opportunities in our path.  It is then up to us to find the courage to take them..."

The five words most guaranteed to offer some immediate comfort in any given situation (thank you Tony Hawks) are these:

"Best put the kettle on"

I discovered I had Breast Cancer quite by chance...I had this odd pain in my left shoulder that wasn't quite right.  the trouble was, it would come and go with no rhyme or reason - although I experienced it most often at night, whilst sitting up in bed doing the crossword.  As a busy mum, who certainly wasn't going to bother her doctor with a minor twinge, I let it come and go for almost a whole year before I finally went to see her.  I was amazed that she wanted to send me for a mammogram as this was the last thing on my mind!  In fact I told her that it was probably nothing and I didn't want to waste their time!  She persuaded me to go - and I probably owe her my life.

It turned out to be early stage DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma in Situ) which required a 'lumpectomy' or wide local excision. Remember that I had NO lumps that could be seen or felt - the cancer was only visible on an ultrasound.  I was in for a few days and was quite confident that that would be it, so you could have knocked me down with a feather when I was told at the follow up appointment two weeks later that it was aggressive, category 3, on the move and worst of all, that there was probably more than one of the cancers in the breast.  I would need chemotherapy, a mastectomy and probably radiotherapy too...I was so totally floored by the news that when the doctor asked me if I had any questions, all I could think of was 'Can I still go and The Darkness at Wembley Arena in December?'  ....!!!

I won't bore you with all the gory details - but I do want to thank all those who sent me healing vibes whilst I was ill - and I have a message for anyone who is the slightest bit concerned about any aspect of their health... GO TO THE DOCTOR!
What would you prefer - or which is the more scary?  Scenario 1.  You go to the doctor.  You may or may not have something wrong with you.  The sooner you receive treatment for something - the better your chances of recovery. Scenario 2.  You don't go to the doctor because you are scared that is something seriously wrong with you.  If there is, then the longer you leave it, the worse that possible scenario could become and if your fears are realised and you do have something seriously wrong - the treatment is delayed and your chances of recovery are reduced.  I know these are not easy or comfortable thoughts, but this is the truth.  I am lucky, I left it a whole year and still recovered - but I won't make that mistake again.

Finally, I want to say that the cancer has been a blessing.  It was hard to lose my hair, but it has grown back now and getting longer all the time.  It has brought me closer to my lovely husband (if that were possible) and has brought me into contact with the beautiful energies of the angels.  I am no longer afraid of really following my heart and am working hard to make my dreams come true.  ...And I will, just watch this space!
