( - rants - stuff - bumpf - auctions - feedback - elsewhere - )
'lo there
I'm not a professional trader. I don't have a shop or warehouse full of stuff with twelve staff and a fax machine which also dispenses coffee. I'm a private punter. I mostly use ebay to buy things. Mostly things I can't buy in the shops or I use it to hunt for bargains. When I sell I mainly sell stuff I no longer have use for, stuff I've replaced, stuff I'm tired of, CD's I've upgraded to vinyl, and the odd thing I find that tells me telepathically I have to take it and sell it on ebay for the good of all mankind. They will all be listed below. Most of the information on this page is geared towards filling the space so if it rambles unnecessarily know that it is all part of a greater plan...
This may seem obvious to many people but PLEASE if you are looking at any of my auctions, or infact ANYONE'S auctions, don't bid unless you actually want the item and are willing and able to pay for it.
I don't want to have to be a pain in the arse but I'm sick of auctioning stuff and having people decide after a while their high bid was more than they intended and promptly hiding under a rock until the heat is off.. I'm now seeing the reason why some people won't accept bids from anyone without at least 10-20 positive feedback. I'm not intending to impliment that overall. It shines of elitism at times. We all had 0 feedback at one time. But I'm considering it for some items. Popular items kiddies might bid on. I'll ask for the signature of parent or guardian before they can proceed...
People can retract their bid, yes it looks lame and unprofessional but some of us are, and it's better to do that and just risk a bit of red faced sheepishness than defaulting on a high bid and pissing people off and getting negative feedback etc.
Thought #17. If you get an email from a friend etc that tells you to delete a file on your PC because it's a virus, it's possibly a damaging hoax your friend has fallen for. I see these coming up a lot here on the forums and elsewhere online. Basically if you sign up for virus announcements from Norton, McAfee or Symantec... these are the main authorities on viruses (virii?) online. Microsoft AREN'T the big guys on info, neither are AOL. if the 'virus' warning cites those two as the people warning of this 'virus' it's possibly cack. Check with http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html where you will find most hoaxes exposed. If it doubt email them and ask. DON'T delete anything in Windows without consulting an expect unless you are POSITIVE it is a virus. Most of the files these 'hoaxes' ask you to selete are just strangely named parts of the Windows operating system that it needs to run. The joke being that the writer of these hoaxes gets good laugh out of making you fluff up your own OS. If you do fall for one of these hoaxes either replace the missing file from the CD or ask someone with the same OS to send you a copy of the file... or alternatively fish it out of the recylce bin if it's still in there.
Thought #19. I used to work in a factory. In their they had a machine that could seal things in plastic wrap. Being a big child I of course abused it to seal items of a personal nature belogning ot work collegues... cups of tea, sandwhiches, newspapers, shoes, small pets... I could of course seal any old thing like this. Many people have access to these machines. It's something to bear in mind next time you see an item listed on ebay as "Factory Sealed"...
Thought #23. Ever get the idea some people sell on ebay just to get your email address for their mailing list? Yes they have to sell you an item but recently I'm getting added to mailing lists. Often in languages I don't understand. I just block them. I don't feel buying from an ebayer should warrant you having to accept their regular 'updates' 'bullitins' or 'special offers'. Too muhc of this sort of thing. Oh yes they say... well if it was the ordinary post you wouldn't have a say in it... yes but the commercial rubbish in the ordinary mail is why the ordinary mail sucks so much. Just ask your postman... bring a glass of water. He'll need it after all the fuming and foaming....
Thought #31. I had a bit of a problem a while ago. I got sick, had to go into hospital for a time. During this period an auction I had bid on on was won and went unpaid for about a week. I eventually apologised to the seller and paid for the item. I didn't inform the seller of the cause of my delay. the reason being that I'm sure they, like me, have heard them all. I wrote a sarcastic article once about how use of ebay raises the risk of personal accidents, sickness, the death of relatives and other assorted drama to Walford or Weatherfield levels. The truth is... hard to divulge, but cynicism is rampant. Excuses, regardless of how justified, always just seem like excuses. Fakes excuses just lead to more cynicism, which leads to more of a sense of victimisation in those who feel they have suffered unjustly. Best policy I feel is to just apologise and move on. Less bitterness, less of the angry victim show.
Anyway I'm selling my video collection. My VCR is old and I don't intend to buy a new one. Look out below... Also due to lack of space I'm going to sell my beloved 2000AD collection, most are in decent read condition. I may list & auction special editions etc. As usual, message me for more information. I'm after vinyl as usual, but also Titan 2000AD editions. Specifically the Halo Jones & Bad Company series. Also the first 2 ABC Warriors books. I'm not amazingly fussy on quality. I just want them for my libary and spine damage and the odd dog-ear will make them look at home.

If you are interested in any of these titles send me a message and I will put them up for auction. I won't email you privately and sell it there. I like to give people a chance (and for me to earn more cash comeback to feed my filthy vinyl habit and replace the cheap videos with more expensive DVDs. The way I see it if I sell all these I MIGHT have enough for the Star Wars trilogy on DVD... second hand perhaps.) also selling items advertised on ebay, off ebay is against ebay rules.
I have an extensive collection of 2000ADs (and related) in various states (mint to shredded). Message me with wants lists for can-do's & estimates.

For those that missed it or those that want to see it again here is the bumpf I put at the bottom of my auctions:
Games note:None of the floppy based games I'm auctioning are guaranteed to work. I no longer own an Amiga and cannot test them but unless mentioned all DID work. However you should be reminded that Floppies are not a very reliable medium and are not treated well by the passage of time. Backups can usually be found online for download fairly easily.
Videos note:All the videos I'm auctioning are from my own personal collection and as such in reasonably used condition. I no longer possess a VHS player and cannot test any of these so I'm assuming they haven't developed any nasty quirks while in storage. Because of this there is a low starting bid and no reserve (not that I've ever used a reserve), at the same time there is no refund if the videos are not satisfactory. I need the space. These either sell or they get recycled and I'd sooner people bought the rarer ones at least.
Accepted Payment & Posting:Payment will be final auction price plus cover for actual postage price and (new) packaging. I don't charge for "handing" or "administration". Payment preferably in UK funds, but I will accept other currencies PLUS a standard charge for conversion to cover the bank charge which is usually expensive. Payment by UK postal Order or UK bank cheque, or for overseas: International Money Order/Draft in UK funds. I can also be paid by paypal and Ebay payments/Billpoint. I will accept carefully concealed cash in UK pounds, however due to the risks involved I don't advise it without insurance of some kind (get a proof of posting at least, but if you send it registered or recorded the Postal Staff tend to treat it with more respect) and I will not accept responsibility for the payment until I receive it. Please remember to include your address and item number wiht payment and remember to place your address on the reverse of cheques and envelopes incase it gets lost in the postale service. I get proof of posting for all items I sell and I am quite happy to send items recorded/insured for an extra charge if it is valuable (over 8) or for added security. It's unlikely items will go missing but it DOES happen.
Please try to contact me within seven days of the auction. I'm usually relaxed about the time you take to pay but I like to be kept informed of what is going on. I'm well within my ebay rights to relist the item after seven days and leave negative feedback. Don't bid unless you intend to buy. Common Sense rules.
Happy Bidding, feel free to message me with any questions.
