I think we at Poole Zone have finally come up with a name that truly reflects what we are. We are people from the Poole area of Dorset who have an interest in keeping alive the very best in British Studio Pottery locally. We are a group of business people, potters, and ceramic designers and decorators, with our own growing network of studios and facilities throughout Dorset, and most of us have at some time over the past 30 years worked for or with Poole Pottery. We have new artists joining us every week, so our desire to have fun with pottery is catching on rapidly. We hope you'll enjoy our products. We are not an exclusive group of experienced pottery people, however, and we welcome anyone who shares our interest and our passion, whether experienced or not, to join us in creating quality ceramics. We know a lot of talented people who can produce wonderful items but need help in selling them that often the hardest part. We are already working hand-in-hand with Mark Baker, a studio potter at the Courtyard Centre at Lytchett Minster, near Poole, and Mark worked for Purbeck Pottery for many years before going it alone. The Courtyard Centre is rapidly becoming our second home, and is already a regular meeting place for pottery people, so if youe interested, why not pop in and see Mark. You are sure to find something special on display, and his stock is changing rapidly. Alternatively, why not take lessons from Mark, or talk to him about sharing his facilities and sales outlet. Our business advisers are also in close contact with Alan Clarke, formerly of Poole Pottery, but now departed to Stoke on Trent to continue his work, and with the talented and innovative Janice Tchalenko, so we shall include them in our group. Alan White, Master Potter at Poole for almost 40 years, is now setting up his own studio locally, and we shall help by offering his "specials" through Ebay. His technical clay and glaze knowledge is essential to us in our quest for top quality items. Poolezone has been set up specifically to unite and promote the work of the potteries in the Poole area of Dorset, UK. It is hoped that all remaining potters and potteries may work together, and help each other to survive the influx of cheap imports from abroad. POOLEZONE will act as their worldwide Internet outlet for one-offs, trials, and small Limited Editions, so Ebay will be the best place to see examples of their work for sale by auction. You're in for some real treats, I promise you. Meanwhile, we form part of a group of individuals, currently known as POTS (Potteries Of The South), which is negotiating with Poole Borough Council to form a new Living Museum and Pottery in Poole. We intend to create a Museum to represent ALL potteries in Poole and the wider South of England area, and plan to house a brand new Pottery Studio, Decorating Centre, and Collectors' Club alongside our Museum. Watch this space for updates on progress. |
