To get the best answers to your needs, starting with the source of the music to the sound coming out of your speakers, is a chain that can be complex. All the way through this chain, different performance or quality criteria, size, weight, compatibility with other gear, price ... will all figure in your final selection.

What is the best answer for you?

At RSDmusic our aim is to help you get a realistic answer to your Sound & Lighting needs. We have a range of products in all our product categories that we know work well. But we can provide you with much more than that. We have very effective links with most of the well-known brands, so we can probably source most gear for you. And if we can’t get it at a good price we will tell you, so you don’t spend more than you need to.

Our help & advice is free and willingly given.

Yes we have pretty good prices, but with that comes a personal touch that we are told is usually missing from ‘internet box shifters’.

If the best answer for you isn’t in our current range then we will either get it for you or tell you where you can find it. We aim to build our business on a foundation of happy customers and we can’t do that unless you have the best answer for you – regardless of where that comes from.

Who is the Real Slim Davey – what’s this name all about?

A few years ago, when I weighed close on 21 stone, a very witty guy I knew called me the RealSlimDavey. I liked the name and decided to use it for the sound & lighting business I wanted to start. My first company T-shirts had a lot of ‘X’s in the sizing!

In 2007 I finally got my head and then my weight in order. At around 15 stone (and a little over 6ft tall) the name RealSlimDavey is now ‘post-ironic’ and the T–shirts are a lot smaller. So if you want, we can talk diet, exercise and mind games as well as Sound & Lighting Gear!

If you want to visit us, we are on the Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey borders in Eversley but please call first. Nearest motorway junctions are 10 & 11 on the M4 and 4a & 5 on the M3.

Our opening hours are flexible, but usually 11 in the morning to 7 in the evening, Monday to Friday and again from 11 in the morning at the weekends, to around 5 on a Saturday and 3 on a Sunday.

All about me – the ‘Davey’ behind the RealSlim …

A very long time ago, when Noah was a lad and the internet hadn’t been created, my hobby was electronics. Just basic stuff, but I loved playing around with amplifiers and simple gadgets. Then I saw a mobile DJ at work and thought two things: one was that “all the girls are talking to him” and the other was “I could build that”. So I built one. And while waiting for the girls to talk to me; discovered music.

So after DJing as a student I became a BTIMC (big time international management consultant) and went all over the world spouting business plans and profit improvement strategies. I also tried to play guitar. And much later – just for fun – went to night school to learn clever Sound Engineer stuff.

So now I’m back where I want to be … a lot slimmer and having real fun helping people with Sound & Lighting Gear.

Pricing Policy

I try to get my prices as low as possible. But no lower.

I have to pay a legitimate supplier – I won’t sell unsupported imports as you could end up without a valid guarantee. And that isn’t right,

I charge VAT on everything. If you don’t like paying VAT, then start a protest or just join in and get VAT registered.

I have business costs to cover; staff, accountants, insurance, rent, rates, electricity, waste, R&D, marketing, phone, internet, and so on …

I price everything to cover my expected costs and leave a little over as profit so I can pay more taxes!

If my calculations get me to a price that you like; great! If you think someone else does it cheaper, than tell me. I’ll see if there is a supplier deal I can use, but I’m not promising to beat all prices – that’s just a race to the bottom that will end in tears.

My aim in pricing is to provide the best value I can – not to commit economic suicide. If I can get to prices that are fair all round that should work for you and for me. I hope that’s OK with you?
