2000 - STEPS & 'VIEWING PLATFORM':
TAG laid steps up the embankment and built a flat area around the Tree which re-covered the Tree roots which had become exposed & were actually used by steps by visitors! This viewing platform also allowed people to go up to the tree safely without having to stand on the narrow, busy road beside it.
2000 - SAVING THE TREE
Press Reports in late 1998 said that 'The Tree' had less than 3 years to live before it would be felled! TAG took immediate steps to save it & because TAG Chairman Kevin Warner is a Qualified Nurseryman the metal calliper to support the rotted lower trunk has been 100% successful, though it is important that the Tree is treated with Respect & not harmed with pins, nails & screws which can intoruce infections & toxins into the Tree.
2002 - BRONZE BUST FOR MARC'S 25th ANNIVERSARY
TAG installed a Bronze Bust of Marc Bolan which was unveiled by his son Rolan Bolan, in the presence of Marc's older brother Harry Feld & Mickey Finn (just three months before Mickey died). The Bronze was cast from an original wooden sculpture by aclaimed Quebec Sculptor Jean Robillard. Harry Feld's comment in our Guestbook about the Bronze reads "A Wonderful Likeness".
2005 - MEMORIAL PLAQUES
Using money donated by fans for this project, TAG installed Memorial Plaques to the members of T(yrannosaurus) Rex who have passed over: Steve Took; Steve Currie; Mickey Finn & Dino Dines.
2007 - MARC'S 30TH ANNIVERSARY
This saw a Unique Special Event happen inside the sacred stones of Stonehenge, dedicated to Marc this was in recognition of Marc's visits to Stonehenge & Glastonbury Tor with June, John Peel, photographer Peter Sanders and others.
2008 - MARC'S ROSE FUND LAUNCHED
Club members thought Marc should have his own named rose as Freddie Mercury has, so we are currently fund raising to make this happen.
2009 - 100 CLUB CELEBRATION
TAG booked the legendary 100 Club, Oxford Street, London for a Very Special Celebration featuring live music by T.REX - The Music of Marc and Mickey on Friday 18th September. Both Marc's Shrine in Barnes & the 100 Club are listed as important sites of Rock 'n Roll importance by the English Tourist Board (Enjoy England) in their guide England Rocks
TAG FOUNDER
TAG was founded by current secretary Fee Warner (nee Bolan) who has been visiting the site since 24th September 1977 and has not only kept a close eye on the state of the Tree, but who also routinely tidied the site upon each visit. In 2000 TAG was granted an in perpetuity lease on the site & ownership of 'The Tree' itself. For the first time in over 23 years people who cared about the tree came to own it. :-)
