The Powell family has been trading in Maldon since 1974 and we are now operating from our large store and garden centre at 85 - 87 High Street in Maldon, a picturesque, riverside town in an attractive corner of rural Essex.

A family run business you can trust, The Emporium is Maldon's largest independent High Street retailer selling a wide range of quality items at competitive prices, including furniture, homeware, gifts, pet and garden products. Our customers call us an Aladdin's Cave because of the huge stock of different products which change daily, weekly, monthly and seasonally!

Whilst the style of our store is deliberately old-fashioned in line with the appearance of Maldon's traditional High Street, the Powell family maintains a range of the latest products available. Graham and Mary Powell visit all major UK trade shows each year to keep abreast of new product developments and to ensure that, through our 50 plus suppliers, we are able to present our customers with a constantly evolving range of goods.

We take customer service very seriously and we know from the many comments from our in-store customers that our employees help to make The Emporium special! They also love to participate in Maldon's special events such as the Pan Cake Race, Red Nose Day and the Carnival, to name but a few.

Brought up in the tradition of providing quality products at extremely competitive prices, combined with the outstanding customer care which has been the hallmark of our reputation for the last thirty years, their sons, Richard and Gareth, have established a thriving internet division of the business. Very ably supported by Richard's wife, Georgina, they have created successful and growing eBay (the_emporium_direct) and Amazon shops. The 100% positive customer feedback on both sites is a reflection of the excellent standard of service that our in-store customers have come to expect and our online customers equally enjoy.
