'The Travelling Hen' is the home of our family business, The Country Cook Shop,
and is actually the name of the building that our family business has been
based in for over 40 years
- a former lovely old 17th Century Country Inn in rural Herefordshire.

Formerly known as 'The New Inn', the name was changed in 1965 to
commemorate the resident pub hen called Clara who seemed to have an
unusual desire to travel.

In the early 1960s Clara, the Rhode Island Red, often went missing from
home for weeks on end having roosted in the shelter of one of the haulage
lorries that had parked in the car park overnight.

The Travelling Hen Inn has been closed for over 20 years now. So, from
being the home of one of the oldest trades in the world to becoming the
new home of the very latest innovations - Innovative Internet Ideas for Home
& Garden, The Travelling Hen has seen quite a few changes.

Our philosophy is very simple: "We don't sell anything that we wouldn't use
ourselves". In fact, most of the items that we sell we have bought
elsewhere for ourselves and liked them so much that we decided to stock
them.
