I have been running Wesrthill Watches as a full time business since December 2008 and now make my living from it.
I've been involved as an amateur with collecting and repairing watches for more than 20 years. I am not so interested in the case or style of a watch, but in its movement. My particularly interest is in the more unusual and complicated watches produced in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a time of great invention within the watch industry.
I derive great pleasure in repairing and restoring an old (to me, that means pre 1900) watch, that might not be in the best of shape, to a state where it can once again function as a reliable pocket watch.
Over the years I have managed to acquire a number of old watchmaker's tools and materials, which I find invaluable in restoring a watch or movement.
I have published a book: ‘The Pocket Watch: Restoration, Maintenance and Repair’ available through my listings.
I would be happy to hear from other collectors, and if I can, provide any technical information or help that may be of use.
I also sell barometers and other scientific instruments. As with pocket watches, I carry out all the required work to restore these myself.
Unless otherwise stated in my eBay listings, all the watches, movements and barometers etc. I sell have been cleaned, serviced, and where necessary, repaired by me. I am happy to guarantee that they will all, within the limitations of an old mechanical instrument, work satisfactorily. I will be happy to either repair or refund the cost (the buyer’s choice) of any watch, movement or other scientific instrument I sell, if they are found to be faulty, not as described or if you are just not happy with them. It must be borne in mind that any instrument that is over 100 years old, may not perform as well as modern one, but in my opinion they are far more interesting.
Please feel free to contact me regarding any of my eBay listings; I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can and answer any questions.
Postage & packing:
I try to keep this as low as I possible, and only charge enough to cover the true cost of postage and packing. For UK customers I send items out first class 'signed for', this normally gets there by the next working day, please note that this only covers an item up to a maximum value of 39.00 GBP. If you would like to fully insure the item, I offer 'special delivery' which guarantees next day delivery (except Saturday) and also includes up to 500 GBP insurance to cover lost or damage. Overseas items are sent 'international singed for' and only includes insurance up to 39.00 GBP, if you require more insurance, this can be add. If for any reason I've over charged for postage, I will refund any excess.
