FAQ - Payment is PENDING?
In 'my eBay' it says a PayPal payment is 'Pending'. What does that mean?
'Pending' is the term used by eBay and what really matters is wether or not the payment is showing in YOUR PayPal account at https://www.paypal.com and what status it has there.
If the payment is not showing in your PayPal account that's either because it hasn't been sent at all or because it's been sent to an email address that is not registered to YOUR PayPal account.
PayPal Payment status
"COMPLETED": The transaction was successful and the money was credited to the recipients PayPal account
"CLEARED": An eCheque payment cleared the sender's account and was credited to the recipients PayPal account
"UNCLEARED" - Probably an 'eCheque' payment type.
"UNCLAIMED" -
If the email address (by which the intended recipient's PayPal account is identified) has been spelled correctly then the Seller should have received a payment notification email from PayPal with instructions as to what action is needed by him/her to claim it.
An Unclaimed payment can be because...
1) The email address used has not been registered to a PayPal account. or 2) The email address has been registered to a PayPal account but not 'confirmed' by the account holder or 3) 'Personal' Account Receiving Limit. If you have a UK, Canadian or US Personal account, you are limited to receiving no more than the equivalent of 50.00 GBP each month, based on the Primary Currency of your PayPal account. or 4) The payment was funded by a Credit/Debit card and the intended recipient has a 'Personal' account which must be upgraded (to 'Premier' or 'Business') to be able to receive the payment. or 5) The seller has a 'Currency' based Payment Receiving Preference set up for his/her PayPal account and the payment has to be manually accepted or refused.
FAQ - BANK FUNDING Why am I being asked by PayPal to set up Bank Funding?
'Bank Funding' is the First Step to gaining the status of Verified. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/ebayexplained/paypal/bankfunding.html
i.e. For the purpose of 'Verification' it's supposed to be a security measure.
Only you can request that a payment be made from your bank account. PayPal will never seek to debit funds from your bank account without your prior authority. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/ebayexplained/paypal/bankfunding2.html
How do I set up bank funding for my UK bank account that is already added to my PayPal account? http://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&eloc=314&loc=301 FAQ - CUMULATIVE RECEIVING LIMIT
Why do I have a cumulative Receiving Limit? As PayPal grows internationally, we are required to comply with anti-money laundering and 'Know-Your-Customer' regulations specific to each country. This requires us to collect additional information about you and/or your business before you reach a lifetime total amount received of 5,000 GBP.
Please provide the requested information as soon as possible to prevent your account from being limited. https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&nodeid=25699&leafid=78544
How can I prevent PayPal requiring additional information about my account? PayPal may need additional information about your account for a number of reasons, some for more serious issues than others.
Generally, you can help avoid PayPal requiring additional information about your account by adhering to the terms of our User Agreement and by only using your PayPal account to engage in lawful activity.
If you are a Premier or Business customer, you can take proactive measures by completing the Recommended Steps for Merchants, which can be reached by going to the left-hand box on the Account Overview page. https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&eloc=1926&loc=1921
What is the 'Recommended Steps for Merchants' link on my Account Overview page? The 'Recommended Steps for Merchants' are actions that help further increase the security of our payment network. Once you complete these steps, your account will be more secure and we can continue to offer you a full suite of products and services. https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&nodeid=25843&leafid=70965
FAQ - BUSINESS / MERCHANT INFORMATION
I'm not a business so why are PayPal asking me to provide that sort of information?
In order to verify a Premier or Business account PayPal will ask you to Supply Merchant Information, set up Bank Funding and Validate your Location.
You must complete all three steps for the account to become verified and to lift your sending and withdrawal limits. PayPal does this to protect the security of its service.
To complete the 'Supply Merchant Information' form you will need to:
- Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/ - Click 'Profile'. - Click the 'Business Information' link in the 'Account Information' column. - Click the 'Edit' button. You will be asked to complete the following information: - Business Type - if you are not a Business you can select 'Individual' from the drop down menu - Limited Company Number (if applicable) - Date Business Established - Please make sure to enter it in dd/mm/yyyy format (you can use any date, such as the date you started selling on eBay) - Date of birth - VAT number (optional) - Category and subcategory - select the type of goods that you sell or might sell - Anticipated average transaction price and volume (your own estimate) - Sales venue and business website (optional, such as 'eBay') - Click 'Save' to finish the process.
FAQ - PayPal ACCOUNT TYPE
Which PayPal account type should I be using?
'Personal' - Are not intended to be used for regular/frequent selling. - Can be used to send all payment types. - Limited to sending a maximum of 50 per month - Can only receive payments funded by either an existing PayPal balance or a Bank account. - NOT able to receive Card funded payments, but are also NOT charged any receiving fees.
Premier - May operate under an individual name. - Can receive ALL payment types, however funded - Subject to receiving fees on ALL payments, however funded.
Business - Can operate under a Company or Group name. - Can receive ALL payment types, however funded - Subject to receiving fees on ALL payments, however funded.

FAQ - UPGRADE PayPal account
Why am I being asked to upgrade my Paypal account? You have been sent a payment that the buyer funded with a Credit or Debit card. (Personal accounts are unable to receive Card funded payments)
Do I have to upgrade? You cannot be forced to and certainly don't have to if you did not either select PayPal as a payment method in the eBay 'Sell Your Item' form or mention PayPal in the text of your listing/item description.
NOTE: If and when you tick the box for PayPal payments in the eBay Sell Your item form it will mean that the PayPal Credit/Debit card logos will automatically be inserted into your eBay item listing.
If you have those logos showing in your eBay item listing OR You don't have the Credit/Debit card logos showing, BUT mention in another way that you accept PayPal payments, you are required to be prepared to accept card funded payments, even if that means upgrading your PayPal account to do so.
However, some sellers don't tick the box for PayPal payments, but do say in their own text that they will accept non-card funded PayPal payments.
Bearing in mind that it's always best to avoid confusion and misunderstandings (many buyers are new to eBay/PayPal) you'll have to accept any aggravation caused by those that end up not paying at all or worse, such as complaining to eBay/PayPal.
FAQ - PayPal payment via eBay not working
There is a 'Temporarily Unavailable' or other message when trying to make a payment, what can I or my buyer do?
If you mean the eBay/PayPal link, then it's a common problem and the solution can be to pay from directly from your PayPal account, NOT via eBay.
Buyers: Log in to PayPal at https://www.paypal.com and use 'Send Money', then select 'Pay for eBay Items'
