After a long, hard Formula One season in 2004, and looking ahead to an even busier schedule in 2005, we all settled back to make the most of the Christmas/New Year break.
With testing scheduled to resume in the second week of January, and the teams scheduled to begin launching their new cars over the month ahead, we were determined to wind down and switch off.
Than came the events of December 26, when south-east Asia fell victim to as tsunami, one of the most devastating events in modern history.
In the days that followed, we witnessed pain, despair and misery. We felt helpless as the tragic events unfolded on our television screens, like the ultimate disaster movieonly this was for real.
As these people struggle to rebuild their lives, their communities, there is precious little that we can do for them other than to contribute money.
Over the years I have amassed a fairly large collection of Formula One memorabilia, books, posters, models etc. Although they represent a lifetime following my favourite sport, they are nothing when one considers the misery inflicted on our fellow man on the other side of the world.
Therefore, in association with Oxfam, I am putting a number of items up for sale, with all proceeds going to Oxfam tsunami relief effort.
I am delighted to say that several other people are donating items for the auction, including Renault, BAR and Bridgestone.
In most cases there is no reserve price, that said, please be generous as the money is going to a very worthwhile cause.
